Prior to founding Metcor, Alasdair worked with Newcrest Mining Limited on secondment as the Metallurgical Lead for the Mergers and Acquisitions team undertaking due diligence reviews. Prior to this secondment he was the Processing Manager of the Lihir Gold Operation for Newcrest Mining Limited and Lihir Gold Limited for five years. The Lihir Gold Processing Plant at the time was a ten million tonne per annum mineral processing facility utilising pressure oxidation in autoclaves to produce around 800 kozs of gold annually. It is one of the largest gold pressure oxidation facilities in the world and incorporates the largest oxygen production facility in the southern hemisphere. During this period, he had full accountability for all aspects of the processing operation and also had extensive exposure to broader management with frequent periods as Acting Executive General Manager of Operations - managing the entire Lihir Gold Operation including a workforce of some 4,500 employees and contractors.
Alasdair worked at the Osborne Mine in North West Queensland for Barrick Gold and Placer Dome, initially as the Metallurgical Team Leader in charge of technical aspects of the operation of the copper/gold processing plant and subsequently as the Business Development Manager, a Senior Management Position which consisted of three primary roles - to develop satellite ore sources ensuring continuity of operation of the Osborne Mine, to improve organisational effectiveness and implement formal continuous improvement processes at the operation and to lead the development of the Strategic Business Plan for the operation. In this role Alasdair led the successful development of the Trekelano and Inheritance deposits as satellite mining operations - driving the transition from successful exploration targets into producing mines through co-ordinating scoping and feasibility studies, environmental, community and corporate approvals processes and engineering design within a two year period.
Alasdair has also worked at a number of other mines predominantly in North West Queensland as a Consulting Metallurgist and Project Lead for Fluor Australia as well as in Plant Metallurgist roles for Ernest Henry Mining, Mount Isa Mines and for Amalg Resources at the Eloise Copper Mine.
